Two-fold
Compensation 1975
The
work was inspired by a sewing machine ad:
“You don’t need a dressmaker if you have a sewing machine
at home”
This
is on the left; on the right, you can see the particulars of the
work of art desacreted by the ad: Vermeer Van Delft, Lacemaker,
exact size, date of origin (the first compensation).
The pictures are surrounded by a narrow ditch, in which the coins
of memory and two newspaper clippings can be seen.
The
texts of the clipping on the left reads:
“Joe Carbo’s How to Get Rich attracted a great deal
of attention in the USA. His main point is that you should be optimistic,
for optimism is a source of energy. Second, you should stop complaining
about your bad breaks and hard luck. If all this doesn’t help,
you should turn to your subconscious, that marvellous computer of
the mind...”.
The clipping on the right reads:
Correction
(Élet és Irodalom, January 18. 1975).
“There was a line missing in the article we ran last week
by József Vadas. The text should read: Hungarian art is disabled
because the avant-garde could never exert any real influence: between
the two wars, it was harassed because of its left-wing affiliations,
while after the war, we thought it was the enemy, and stayed away
from it.”
On the bottom right, there is the instruction: Please turn! On turning
the picture, we see a proposal for an alternate ad: a piece of quilted
fabric (the second compensation).

Kettős
rekompenzáció 1975
A
műhöz az indítékot egy varrógépreklám
szolgáltatta:
„Nincs
szüksége varrónőre, ha van otthon varrógépe”
Ez
látható a kép hátuljának bal
oldalán, a jobb oldalon pedig a reklám által
megsemmisített Vermeer van Delft „Csipkeverőnő”
c. képének pontos adatai és eredeti mérete
(első rekompenzáció). Mindkét
képet körbeveszi egy keskeny árok, melyben az
emlékezet pénzei és két újságkivágás
látható.

„Joe Carbo könyve, a Hogyan lehet meggazdagodni, nagy
feltűnést keltett az Egyesült Államokban.
Alaptétele szerint először is optimistának
kell lenni, mert ez felfokozza lelki erőnket. Másodszor
nem szabad folyvást zsörtölődni az igazságtalanságok
és az elszalasztott lehetőségek miatt. Ha mindez
nem segít, akkor a tudatalattihoz, a szervezet csodálatos
komputeréhez kell folyamodni...”

Hibaigazítás

„Múlt heti számunkban Vadas József Titok
kulisszák nélkül c. cikkéből kimaradt
egy sor. A szövegrész helyesen így hangzik: A
magyar képzőművészet szervi fogyatékossága,
hogy az avantgarde nem tudta hatását kifejteni –
a két világháború között azért
nem, mert baloldalisága miatt üldözték,
a háború után azért nem, mert ellenfélnek
tekintettük és óva intettük tőle magunkat.”
A
képet megfordítva, (második rekompenzáció)
egy ajánlat:
a varrógépeket reklámozzák steppelt
angol tapétával.
